The phenomenon of "private houses" in Cuba began in August 1997, as a result of the legalisation of a common practice which was already established in the island.

Cuban families, encouraged by the need to find new forms of incomes and through their resourcefulness and hospitality, used to offer tourists rooms in their own apartments, sometimes even having to move out.

Today, this has become a common practice permitted and controlled by the government. Host families who practice it, keep always a charming room to offer the visitors.

Nowadays, many rooms and houses for rent without permission still exist, but safety in not guaranteed. Our selection of houses meets the standards of hygiene, quality and security required by the Cuban government.
